Objectives

The aim of this project is to produce hydro-meteorological gridded data for the validation of climate models and for long-term climatological studies of hydro-meteorological conditions (situations of high and low water). The gridded data of daily precipitation, which already exists for Germany, is expanded to the river catchment areas. Furthermore, daily gridded data will be produced for other hydrometeorological elements, such as air temperature.

The result will be the provision of gridded data of hydrometeorological parameters such as precipitation and temperature in a spatial resolution of 5 km x 5 km for Germany and for the river basins of neighbouring states draining into Germany for the period from 1951 to 2006.

A further objective is the evaluation of global and regional climate models with regard to their ability to simulate weather processes realistically. Furthermore, changes in the frequency of certain weather types due to climate change will be investigated. These analyses will include only weather situations which are related to extreme events such as dry periods or heavy precipitation events.
